Buon pomeriggio a tutti!

I just come back home, here're some pictures of my 2nd attempt in forging a socket axe used within the Piceni (Iron Age, Piceno III, ca. 700 - 650 b.C.). Despite the long forging and the high temperature quench, neither the socket nor the blade have hardened: they deformed after a few blows. Forging was a failure under this aspect, but it has proven the validity of a particular technique for bending a metal sheet: to carve it with a chisel.

Ed ecco un video della tempera / and here's a clip showing the quench: www.youtube.com/user/Mauro0Sub0Fipsas?feature=mhee
La forgiatura è durata 2 ore e 50 minuti, durante le quali ho consumato 4,5 chili di carbone / Forging lasted 2 hours and 50 minutes, during which I used 4,5 kilos of coal. Ciao! Mauro.
